The MTD Lawn Tractor Mandrel Assembly, part number 918-04865A, replaces 918-04636 and 918-04636A. It includes the mandrel shaft, housing, pulley, bearing, flange nut, and spacers?everything needed to drive the blade from the mower deck.
If your lawn tractor leaves uneven cut lines or the blades stop spinning even though the belt is intact, a damaged or worn mandrel may be the cause. Replacing the full assembly helps restore smooth blade rotation and cutting consistency.
The mounting holes on the mandrel housing aren?t pre-threaded, so be sure to install it using self-tapping bolts like part 710-1260A. Always disconnect the spark plug before working near the blades and wear work gloves to protect your hands during installation.
Routine maintenance and timely mandrel replacement can extend the life of your mower deck and ensure professional-looking lawn results with every pass.

The part was shipped quickly so I didn't have long to wait. The only problem with the original part was the star-shaped projection on the shaft that keeps the blade from slipping on the shaft was completely worn down to nothing. I had the same problem on another mower and on that one the part I replaced was worn down after very little use. .
